Small gestures go a long way in early fatherhood

Adam shares with us his experiences of getting involved in the pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.

When a woman feels supported by her partner, she often feels more relaxed and less stressed. This helps her body, mind and nervous system. We also know that being a part of the process is amazing for bonding for fathers.

Some dads can feel disconnected from the process because they are not feeling the same changes in their body; their baby may remain just a 'concept' throughout the pregnancy. It's not until they meet their newborn and hold them in their arms that they begin to bond and fall in love. For some this can be instant, while for others it can take days, weeks or even months.

Regardless of how it feels for you, fathers play a very important role in a child's life, so doing whatever you can to bond and connect will bring such sweet rewards for you and your child.
